Di luar pengadilan, ratusan pendukung Taman berkumpul, melambai-lambaikan bendera Korea dan AS dan menyerukan pembebasan mantan presiden. Kaum Korea Selatan yang lebih tua dan konservatif, yang mengingat kediktatoran ayah Park sebagai periode kekuasaan bagi negara itu, adalah basis elektoral dan pandangan umum selama proses impeachment.
Presiden wanita pertama Korea Selatan, dan putri mantan diktator Park Chung-hee, Park Geun-hye ditangkap pada Maret 2017 tak lama setelah dia dicopot dari kantornya oleh Mahkamah Konstitusi negara itu, yang menjunjung suara parlemen untuk mendakwa dia.
